Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us. And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took unto him his wife; and knew her not till she had brought forth a son: and he called his name JESUS. Matthew 1: 23-25
Are there any sweeter words than, “And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us”? God? With US? Amazing! Incredible! Earth-shattering news! And there He stands before us clothed in humanity, sharing our joys, our sorrows, breaking bread with us, promising salvation through His other precious name, Jesus, Yeshua: The Lord is our Salvation.
These two words alone should be a source of great joy. God is with us – Immanuel. Here. Now. In our loneliness. In our joy. In our suffering. In our laughter. Here. Now. And He is salvation: from sin, its power, its shame, its bitter judgments, and its eternal consequences. We don’t have to hear: “Be gone, I never knew you.” We can come and know Him as Immanuel every day of our lives because He is also the God of our salvation.
God is with us.
Halleluiah! What a Savior!
God is with us.
Halleluiah! What a Friend!
